 This week we were learning about all souls day.

Nervous moment

Butterflies in my Stomach

When you're small, playing football against Napier makes you really nervous.

I was only 9 years old at the time and I was representing Gisborne to play against Napier. While we drove there my heart was beating rapidly and while we did the warm up I was even more nervous.

As the game started and  I started on the bench and then my coach told me “Billy you're going on now”. Now I feel like my heart is going to come out of my chest. I start at right back and then the ref blows his whistle for half time. My nerves have gone away and we're losing 5-2 and it's not looking like we're coming back. So when the second half darts I get moved to the right wing and I set up a goal but he missed by an inch, I'm so annoyed . I came off about ten minutes into the second half and there's only fifteen minutes left and we were losing 6-2. The game finished and the final score was 7-2 to Napier.

When I heard the final whistle I couldn’t believe I did because when you're small playing football against napier makes you really nervous.

A mood ring works by the temperature of your body and the ring colour changes off your temperature. Violet is happy or romantic, blue calm or relaxed, green neutral, yellow tense or excited and brown is anxious or nervous. Mood rings came out in the mid 1970s.

Title: Bayern Munich football team is the best in the world.

Introduction  What football team is the best in the world? I think that Bayern Munich is the best team in the world because of the champions league titles, all their  trophies and all of their fans worldwide.

Argument 1  Firstly, there is the champions league where all of the best teams in the world go against each other. They won the champions league this year and now tied 3rd of most wins in the champions league titles in the world. They won all of their 14 games in the champions league and scored 42 goals and closest to them had only in the whole of the tournament 25 goals and only 2 of Bayern Munich players had 24 goals.

Argument 2  Secondly, Bayern Munich have won 70 trophies all together and have 12th most trophies in the world. They won 8 league titles in a row from 2013. They have won the most trophies in their league ever.

Argument 3 Lastly, there are fans. They have 291,000 official members. With 4,433 fan clubs with over 390,000 members. They have the 5th biggest fan base in the world and have an average 1.5 million shirt sales a year. The amount of fans they have in a game is 75,000 and the value of their club is $2.3 billion.

Conclusion Therefore, I think that Bayern Munich is the best in the world for all of these reasons and because they have won the champions league this year with all the best teams.

White Rhinoceroses

White Rhinos are the second largest land mammal after the elephant. Rhino is not the scientific name it is Rhinoceroses and comes from Afrikaans. There are only 5 species of Rhinos 2 in Africa and 3 in Asia and their group name is called crash.

White and black rhinos are actually grey even though they are called black and white rhinos. An adult white rhino is the same height as a Asian elephant at 2.5 m-4m and weigh 500 kg-2500kg. Rhinos horn grow 3 inches a year and most ever was 5 feet. The horn is not actually connected to their skull and they have squared lips.

White rhinos live in northern and southern Africa and both northern white rhinos are female.

Since rhinos have square lips they can pluck leaves and fruit off trees. Female white rhinos use their horn to protect and males use it to fight. Rhinos actually have a very good hearing and smell. Some rhinos can reach upto the speed of 40km per hour. I have learnt alot about white rhinos and I think people should stop killing the rhinos so they can live like they used to.

Rugby League Photo Collage

We were playing rugby league and we learnt new skills and the rugby teachers we really cool. They were from Turanga Health and we learnt things like side stepping and passing. At the end we played a game and it was a game of touch.

They come in and play rugby with us so we can stay healthy and be strong they come every Tuesday. I like it because I can stay fit and try new things and I think I got better at passing a rugby ball.

Classification: The weta ia a extremely heavy insect one of the heaviest in New Zealand. A weta is a good snack for a wild animal they are pigs favourites. Wetas are really old older than dinosaurs they have been around for 190 million years. 

Description A weta weighs as much as a small mouse the heaviest weta is 70 grams. A weta has small spines in all of there legs and have ears on their knees.

Location: Weta are found in New Zealand and their environments are forests, grasslands, caves, shrub lands and urban gardens.

A weta can lay 300 eggs in there lifetime. The males have to protect the females from other males. Weta are most active at night and they are omnivores.

The New Zealand is trying to establish some ocean around the Kermadec islands. Dr Smith said the islands would contain 6 million different types of bird, 35 different types of whales and dolphins, 3 types of turtles and 150 different types of fish.The sealord deal gave Maori rights to fish and guaranteed to give a say on decisions.

Matariki Breakfast

Dark chocolate melted in my mouth as I bit into a chocolate waffle every bite was a different type of flavour. I strolled to the bench and I got a piece of pizza bread, a pancake, a piece of bacon and a doughnut. The pizza breads warmth heated my mouth and the bacon was amazing. The doughnut was the best out of everything better than the pizza bread better than the pancake and better than the bacon.

Looking through the window at my 2020 lockdown
“Wake up.” Whispered Mum it was already 11:00. 4 whole weeks in lockdown in my house because of coronavirus. I have to stay in my house with my Dad, my Mum and my brother. I just wanted to sleep in as much as I could. I was so sleepy and I slowly slumped my way down the hallway. I searched for some breakfast but Mum says “I'm going to cook some pancakes.”

I think, what am I going to do while I wait? I know I will play fortnite. I smile as I see the victory royale banner. Finally after 4 games my brother wakes up and says “I get the first pancake!” But I want it so I have a boxing fight with him and I actually won even though he’s 3 years older than me.

It's already 1:00 and I'm really bored so I practise football because I can’t play so it’s the closest thing to it. First I practise keepy uppies then I learn how to do an around the world, then I do some passes and some shooting. I finally came and I had a nap.

I sped down the road as fast as I could and I found the Hulk sitting waiting impatiently for me. I asked him if there were any clues and he said yes, spider webs, fortnite on playstation. Ironmanman's sunglasses and ant man's wallet. Who are the suspects and he said Spiderman, Thor,Ironman and Ant Man. The first thing I realise is that there was no evidence that Thor was there so that means it's not Thor.

If there were spider man's webs then he couldn’t have been at the tv and I don't think that Iron man or Ant man would be playing fortnite so Spider man must have been. If there was Ant man's wallet then he must have gone out and if there was Iron man's sunglasses then he must have been out as well so that means that it was spider man. So then Hulk confronted Spider man and it was him that stole Hulks lunch so he picked up Spiderman and smashed him through a table and then he forced Spiderman to get him a new lunch or he would smash him through a table again.

How does coding work? Coding is in almost everything we use now. Today I will be telling you about coding.


All devices have programs in them. They have step by step instructions which they follow and that's called coding. People make the instructions that they want the device to do. Flash lights also have codes in them that help them turn on.


They will start by writing it in the correct order. Then test to see if it works if doesn't that means there is a gap in the wire. They will fix that gap then see if it works. Very very rarely they will get it correct on the first time but that's very rare.

There are so many different types of codes there different in cars, phones, computers and many more things. But they all achieve something in their own way.

I like playing on devices. I think there will be even more coded things in the future.

This week was Easter and we had to stay in isolation.

Isolation Easter
I awoke on Easter Sunday. I was excited for all the eggs but then I remembered that the whole of New Zealand was in lockdown. Once everyone got up out of bed my brother and I quickly  opened the presents, our Grandma in New Zealand got us Ferrero Rocher eggs and squirrels and my Grandma in England got us a giant chocolate football filled with premier league stickers. After we finished with the presents my dad started to cook some crispy bacon it was extremely delicious.

We used Zoom to talk to our Grandparents in New Zealand because we are not able to go around and see them. After we finished with the call we went outside to tidy our garden because it was like a building site. We had to dismantle our trampoline and move it to the front garden. It was awfully heavy but we got there in the end. Along with that we went for an hour walk around the neighbourhood.

For dinner we had a marvellous roast lamb with roast vegetables and while we were eating we watched Spider-Man Homecoming. After our dinner we facetimed our Grandma in England to wish her a Happy Easter. Grandma was also spending Easter in lockdown.

So Easter in lockdown wasn’t that bad.

Camouflage

Today for our learning we had to camouflage.
I found it easy to find the spot where I was going to hide.
I found it tricky to get in the spot.
Next time I would change the spot.

Easter Traditions

For Christians Easter is a  time to remember how Jesus died on the cross for us but it is celebrated in different ways. In France they make a giant omelette, In Greece they throw clay pots out of windows, Poland they have wet monday were the men throw buckets of water on the girls, in finland the kids dress up and Czech Republic and Slovakia the males whip females with a pomlazka which is a braided whip made from pussy willow twigs. 

Trespass

My summary for Trespass. Jordie, Raj and Jess try see a waterhole but to see the waterhole they had to trespass through someone's property. Jordie wanted to go pass the sign but Jess and Raj weren't to sure about it but they did it anyway.They went to the hole but they saw a man and when the man saw them he told them that they weren't meant to be there so Jordie and Raj didn't leave all of them help the man fix a pipe. After they fixed it they went to the water hole, Jordie found a stone and skimmed it across the water it did four skips.

Senior School Triathlon

Last week we did our senior school triatlon for some fun.
I enjoyed doing the whole triatlon because my team came second.
I found it tricky to do the bike against the wind because it was hard on your legs.

BEEP, BEEP, BEEP my alarm clock goes off I just realise it's the day of the senior school triathlon. I’m extremely excited because it’s my last year at St Marys and I’m doing it in a team. In the team there is Johnny and I, I’m doing the bike and Johnny is doing the run and swim. I went and had breakfast scrambled eggs and toast. It was delicious. I love scrambled eggs.

Nervously I go and put my blue house colours on and get my bike ready by the car. We arrive at school and I see all different colours blue, red, yellow and green, I see all the bikes layed on the ground. I go and see all my friends and see if they're excited for the triathlon.

Johnny starts the run and I’m just waiting for the tag I start shouting to keep Johnny going for the run. I see Johnny. He's in first place but people are catching up. He pulls through and is back in first place and I’m ready for the tag. It's the last 50 meters of the run and he speeds up and tags me.

I start the bike and I stand up. I'm coming first but I start looking behind me just to make sure that there is no one catching up. I think I won by 25-50 meters and I tag Johnny and he sprints and starts the swim. But Josh, the other team's swimmer, catches up to Johnny and passes him. It's the last stretch of the swim and he’s out of the pool.
We both sprint to the finish line and I hear cheering and we come second. I’m very happy with our place as we only had two people in our team

St Patrick's Day

This month we have been learning about St Patrick's day because it was his feast day.
I enjoyed learning new things about him because I didn't know all this stuff.
I found tricky to find interesting fact because I was hard on google.
Next time I would try and finish on time.

Writing Learning Pathway

This week we have been creating our writing learning pathway because we need to set our writing goal for the next two terms.
I enjoyed writing in my goals because I found out what I needed to work on.
I found it tricky to decide my goals because there were a lot of good ones.
Next time I would change my goals.

Zealandia

This week my class have been learning about Zealandia because that's are learn create share.
I enjoyed learning new things about Zealandia because I had never heard of it.
I found it tricky to write the facts on my doc because it took so long.

Dear Mum and Dad,

Is there an eighth continent, some scientists say that there is a sunken land called Zealandia. It sank a million years ago, nearly 200 million and only some of it is above water today. Zealandia is 2.25 square kilometer it includes New Zealand and islands to the south and north all the way up to New Caledonia. It sank because when it split from the other continents the crust began to stretch and thin at the same time water began to fill the gap between Australia and Zealandia as the crust got thinner and the sea got larger the water started to cover it and then it sank.

In Zealandia there are all different types of animals like the Morepork, Little Spotted Kiwi, Kaka, Kakariki, Tui, Tuatara and much more. When it sank a lot of the animals would have died that's why there's very few left right now. The long tailed bat is one of 15 species of bats in the genus. Zealandia would have been very different then it is now.

Zealandia is the closest thing to real life Atlantis. Recently, a team of 32 scientists, from 12 different countries, embarked on a two-month expedition to study the lost continent. The idea was to study these specimens in order to identify how the continent’s geography, climate and volcanic activity has changed over the last 70 million years. So this is why I think Zealandia should be the world’s eighth continent.
